It started when I was a little girl, digging up worms and fishing for newts. I decided to put my geeky tendencies to good use and went to the University of Edinburgh to study Zoology which I later changed to Evolutionary Biology. After graduating I obtained my doctorate from the University of Oxford in experimental evolution, researching the evolutionary ecology of microbial dispersal. Now I work as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Reading investigating the evolution of the genome under a variant genetic code. I developed a love for science writing when I volunteered articles to Science Oxford Online, which later evolved into this blog.
